How is the hourly rate determined?

Common question #2.

The hourly rate depends on the complexity of the task

Caotica’s standard hourly rate is €80/h. This covers typical activities such as design, development, setup, management, support, and strategy. For simpler tasks, we’ve applied a lower hourly rate — agreed upon case by case.

80 €/h

  • €20–40/h: average hourly rate for beginner freelancers or junior-level web developers.
  • €50–80/h: hourly rate for experienced freelancers with broader expertise.
  • €60–130/h: agency hourly rates, with the higher end reserved for the so-called “golden egg” professionals.

Fair, transparent, and budget-friendly pricing

It’s easy to see that developing a website module is not the same as copying text from a Word document onto a website.

Similarly, designing a campaign site requires far more expertise than simply uploading products to an online store.

That’s why, for larger but simpler tasks by their nature, we’ve applied a lower hourly rate than usual.

≈ €40/h

Project management tasks such as meetings, correspondence, discussions, documentation, and similar. Ongoing activities that also take time — valuable work, but billed at a lower rate.

≈ €60/h

Profile management (Facebook, LinkedIn), creating and sending newsletters, setting up and optimizing ads. Tasks that a company’s in-house specialist could handle, but often there’s just not enough time or resources.

€80/h

Expert-level tasks that clients are unlikely to manage on their own. Web development, website and campaign design, module development, and all kinds of setup. Analysis and strategy. Technical support and security assurance.

Why hourly rates vary so much

  • The keyword is quality. For the same reason, some vehicles are more expensive than others. The price doesn’t come out of thin air.
  • Level of expertise and experience. In 99% of cases, the price reflects the professional’s skills and experience.
  • Awards are also a valid reason to raise the hourly rate a bit. There are excellent professionals who actively pursue awards, but also those who don’t — letting their clients judge them instead of a jury.
